SOS Children's Villages

Since: 2016/12/15 ` | NGO
In 1949, Hermann Gmeiner laid the foundations of the first SOS Children’s Villages in Imst, Austria where forty Austrian children in need would find homes after the desolation of World War II . Just a few years later it has developed and spread to over 134 countries, including 11 in the Arab world. 1964, Hermann Gmeiner's idea of giving children without biological parental care an alternative home arrived in Lebanon. 1967 the Lebanese Association of SOS Children's Villages was established. Its mission has been to provide family-based care to children in all regions of Lebanon. Children coming from various religious communities, share the SOS Village life in mutual respect. Girls and boys of different ages grow up together in an SOS family house like brothers and sisters. In the SOS model, children do not “age out” of care. Instead, they enter transitional programs that help young adults find housing, academic programs, and employment.
